I am so thrilled at the response I have had to my Etsy shop and selling my Inspiration Packs on facebook, it has kept me very busy over the last few weeks. I have had to replenish my crochet trims and laces, and so took myself off to Tynemouth flea market. Jean (the lace lady) has a stall every few months and had telephoned me to say she would be there on Saturday. I just couldn't resist this lovely battered and tattered duck egg blue tiny case, ideal to display and photograph my work on.
A friend of mind Anne has a lovely Vintage stall selling all manner of interesting things from trims, laces, fabrics, jewellery, handbags etc. and she always has something a little out of the ordinary and yesterday was no exception! I just had to have these gorgeous fragments of oriental embroidery. The colours and hand sewing attracted me to them, I have no idea what I will do with them, if anything, but I do think they are beautiful.
Gold thread embroidery
I am wondering why it is only part finished, but it has been well worn. A mystery that may never be solved. I will try and find out more information when I speak to Anne again.
Jean always has some incredible pieces of lace, some out of my price range but gorgeous to see nevertheless. My first purchase.......
cotton fabric and lace layers
the bottom section of a dress over a hundred years old
strips of cotton embroidered net
a selection of tiny crochet motifs and doillies
hand made needle lace
incredible workmanship
a bag of assorted crochet and cotton trims
mother of pearl buttons
lovely old tape measures, still in feet and inches just like me!
Time to pop a few fragments of my lovely new trims and lace into the dye pot. Thank you to all of my blogging and facebook friends who leave me lovely comments, and to new followers of my blog, I really do appreciate each and every one of you. Jayne
p.s. baby Thomas melts my heart - such a smile.....
Your blog is sheer joy! Such wonderful vintage 'finds'...and that hand made needlelace is exquisite...thanks for sharing Jayne.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments Jill, I am lucky to have such a fantastic flea market so near every weekend. Sometimes I get amazing finds and other times nothing, just the luck of the draw. I love to find exquisite hand made work like the needlelace, and incorporate it into my work so it has a new life so to speak. Jayne x
DeleteWhat a wonderful blog. I am so pleased you mentioned it on facebook as I hadn't read it before. Those embroidered pieces you have are so beautiful, but most of all those tape measures just brought so many memories flooding back of making in my younger years and left wondering whatever happened to my tape measure. It was as the lower one on the picture. Thank you and love your work. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for such lovely comments. I love it when something brings back such memories, I love old tape measures especially in feet and inches! My father had a lovely old leather bound tape measure that you could wind in, I will keep it always because as a child he used to let me wind it back in. Jaynex

Julia
Thank you Julia, I did get some lovely things off my lace lady Jean, some of them have already been dyed and ready to use. I am hoping to start creating with my new pieces soon. Hope you have a lovely week too, we are having an indian summer at the moment, it is wonderful. Jayne x

Happy and lovely september start to you dear friend.

You do have Linda! x
DeleteLovely suitcase and a veritable treasure trove of textile fragments. Your work is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comments Vintage Jane.
DeleteYou do find all the best bits. I am pleased you enjoyed the thoughts about colour, it is interesting how different we all are - in fact I like most purple colours and lavender.
ReplyDeleteColour has always fascinated me, it can provoke such a strong reaction, I would love to find out why I have such a strong aversion to lilac although like you, I love purple! x
DeleteYears ago I would scour the markets for embroidered linen that a lady had imported from the UK and was selling here in Australia.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Carol, are you able to find lovely linens and vintage bits and bobs in Australia or is it difficult.?
DeleteHA thank you Jayne I am sure you are right about the mermaid bit, knowing my luck I was a rather hefty seal ha ha I love their dreamy lost world eyes xx
ReplyDeleteYour Etsy shop looks fabulous all colour and creativity I love it, I love your little case too very very pretty.
Have lots of fun with your new purchases
Love Lynn xxxx
Good morning Jane, thanks for your comments. I did two pieces because one was based on the actual sketch for the challenge blog and the other was from an ipad tracing. The colours just happened! The Sketchbook Challenge is goods as it gives some feeling of purpose, which sometimes it is difficult to hang on to.
ReplyDeleteooo just found you and feel like i bumped into a soul mate! sending first greetings from me to you! xxxxx
ReplyDeleteHi Janey and welcome, what a lovely thing to say! Are you on facebook? What sort of work do you make? Jayne x
